On Sunday (23 May 2010) and on the eve of the first anniversary of the rigged presidential election, Mehdi Karroubi met with Mir Hossein Mousavi and they discussed the important issues of the country.
In this meeting these two Green leaders by pointing out the arrival of the month of Khordaad (Third month of Persian calendar/ May-June) emphasized on the importance of the significant days of this month including 2 Khordaad (May 23: the day Seyyed Mohammad Khatami was elected president in a land slide victory and start of reform ear), 3 Khordaad (May 24: the day the city of Khoramshahr in south-west of Iran was liberated from the hands of the occupying Iraqi forces), 14 Khordaad (June 4: the anniversary of the day Imam Khomeini passed away) , 15 Khordaad (June 5: the day Imam Khomeini made a strong speech criticizing the Shah and was immediately arrested but his arrest inspired major public protests and was the beginning of the revolutionary movement which finally resulted in Islamic Revolution) as well as 22 Khordaad (12 June: the anniversary of the rigged presidential election) and the post-election events of 25 and 30 Khordaad (15 and 20 June: the day millions took to the streets in peaceful protests to the results of the rigged presidential election that brought Ahmadinejad to power again but were brutally repressed by the security and Basij forces).
In this meeting Mousavi and Karroubi stressed on the necessity of developing reports that precisely document the post-election events and said: “Clarifying what has happened since 22 Khordaad (12 June: the anniversary of the rigged presidential election) is very important for the progress of the Green Movement and showing the justice-seeking path of the people.”
In this meeting the Green leaders decided to invite people to participate in a rally in a national level on the anniversary of the rigged presidential election on 22 Khordaad (June 12th) in case the permission for holding a rally is issued by the Interior Ministry, but if this constitutional right is denied by Ahmadinejad’s administration, they proposed to peacefully continue promoting awareness and through the various and numerous social networks.
Also Karroubi and Mousavi while emphasizing on the ineffectiveness of the violent confrontations against the Green Movement and the expansion of the green waves of the awareness despite all limitations, said that the events of the past week in universities (student protests) are signs of the ineffectiveness of the violent confrontations against the rightful demands of the people and asserted that the people are demanding their human rights which have been stipulated in the constitution and free and non-selective elections as well as free media and the release of all the political prisoners.
In this meeting by referring to the attacks of plain clothes militia, who are armed with warm and cold weapons as well as wireless radio, on some figures and some offices, Mousavi and Karroubi stressed: “These actions are organized crimes and are the continuation of the crimes committed in Kahrizak prison and student dormitories which have re-emerged in a different form today.”
They also by expressing deep sorrow for the brutal beating of Mohammad Nourizad (imprisoned journalist and filmmaker) in prison said that beating and use of violence against an artist with the aim to intimidate him is a cruel and pre-defined method which brings the heart of anyone who is compassionate about the system to pain.”
Karroubi and Mousavi in this meeting asserted: “All these events are the results of silence in front of oppressions and in order to prevent and end these illegal and against religion methods the rights of the individuals and groups should be defended regardless of their views and the charges they face, because the Islamic approach is to defend the oppressed regardless of their views and opinions.”
Mousavi and Karroubi by expressing concern about the widespread expansion of lies in remarks [of government officials] and manipulation of the [official] statistics and information warned that the expansion of lies in addition to destroying the economical, political and cultural aspects for sure will also damage the intellectual foundations of the society; and everyone should be informed that Islam is against lies and corruption and we should tell people that corruption and other inhuman and illegal actions have nothing to do with Islam.”
In this meeting while exchanging views regarding the critical economy situation of the country the decline of national industries, rise in unemployment and the poor life quality of working class and teachers were named as the most important economical problems of the country and it was emphasized that the efforts to divert public mind from the actual reasons behind the problems is a tactic to escape from the problems; and the government instead of making excuses must control the inflation and unemployment rates and support national economy then they will see that many crimes will be reduced.
In this meeting, it was also emphasized that if the state-run televisions and radios (IRIB) stop their partisan and totalitarian policies, there will be more understanding and unity in the society.
These two renowned political figures ask this question that what kind of organization is this, which is called (by the government) the national media but there is no sign of news and views of the nation in there.
At the end, Mousavi and Karroubi, by pointing out that the anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s passing is ahead, referred to the damaging consequences of the government, IRIB and foreign media distorting his political beliefs, way and approach; and added: “Unfortunately, in order to distort what happened in the first decade after the revolution, foreign voices and the government are acting in harmony, which considering the approach of 14 Khordaad (June 4: the anniversary of the day Imam Khomeini passed away) and 15 Khordaad (June 5: the day Imam Khomeini made a strong speech criticizing the Shah and was immediately arrested but his arrest inspired major public protests and was the beginning of the revolutionary movement which finally resulted in Islamic Revolution) truthful education about that era without prejudice is necessary.
