In a telephone conversation with his family from Evin prison, Majid Tavakoli informed them of his improving physical condition. According to Daneshjoo News in addition to thanking all his compatriots, particularly student activists, the leaders of the Green movement and all those who provided world wide support that brought attention to his situation in Evin, he requested that the same level of solidarity be shown towards all political prisoners and Green prisoners of conscience currently under oppression.
The full content of his statement is as follows:
In recent days as a result of my protest against illegal and unjust behavior by prison officials, I was transferred to solitary confinement where I began a dry hunger strike. Currently, thanks to the grace of God and the outpouring of support from my dear compatriots from across the globe, I have been able to fulfill my initial demand, to enjoy the basic fundamental rights awarded to any prisoner and as such have been transferred back to the general ward at Evin.
Now that my physical condition is beginning to improve, while thanking everyone for the solidarity they have shown towards me and my family, I would like to ask that they continue this protesting movement. I request that my dear compatriots demonstrate the same level of solidarity towards all other political prisoners and their families. As I write this letter, hundreds of our nation’s offsprings are in prison cells under unfounded and illusory pretexts. Many are under immense pressure in prison, enduring life threatening conditions, only because they expressed an opinion or thought.
In the words of our famous poet Saadi:
“Of one Essence is the human race,
Thusly has Creation put the Base;
One Limb impacted is sufficient,
For all Others to feel the Mace.”
I look forward to the release of all political prisoners.
