Mir Hossein Mousavi visited Mehdi Karroubi on Sunday morning. In this joint meeting both parties expressed sorrow over the passing of Mohammad Nouri, the legendary Iranian singer, and offered their condolences to the family, art community and people for this loss.
In this meeting that was held with the aim of reviewing the recent events in the country, at the beginning Mir Hossein Mousavi by expressing concerned over the new wave of sanctions passed by the UN security Council, The European Union, United States, Canada and Australia, and their damaging consequences said: “The recent sanctions that have been planned and passed extensively, will cause severe suffering for the people, especially workers, farmers and underprivileged classes of the society. Currently the country is facing problems such as inflation, economic recession and rising unemployment rate; and these sanctions can intensify these problems.
Mehdi Karroubi in this meeting by referring to the remarks made by some of the members of the parliament said: “Repeatedly the representatives of the people in the parliament have called for transparency regarding the foreign currency reserve but unfortunately the administration have not given any proper report on this account with the excuse that it is top secret information! It seems like the administration is seeing the bottom of the foreign currency reserve and that is why it has not been able to implement the legislation passed by the parliament regarding the subway system expansion. Mehdi Karroubi added: “According to the fourth five-year plan we were supposed to have 8 percent economic growth [by now] but unfortunately because of the poor performance of this administration this growth has not yet reached more than 2 percent!”
Mir Hossein Mousavi in this meeting added: “We read very bitter and sad reports regarding the unknown [political] prisoners ward, especially women’s ward in news [these days] that are very unfortunate and heartbreaking. Maybe it is better that the judiciary and security authorities investigate these issues before it gets too late so that tomorrow when the issues are unveiled then they don’t put the blame on a group of so-called rogue individuals.”
Mehdi Karroubi in this meeting by pointing to the propaganda and chaos in some of the pro-government media said: “No conspiracy has happened in the country so that there would be any “head of conspiracy” (the term that pro-government hardliners call the leaders of the Green Movement) for it. What has happened in this past year was a protest movement by the people who have been trying to regain their violated rights.”
Karroubi by pointing to the propaganda supported by the ruling powers added that the fact that some of the pro-government media were using different titles such as the “the heads of the conspiracy” for individuals and today are saying something else is a contradiction by itself which seems more like deception.
Karroubi continued: “The conspiracy is nothing but engineering the people’s votes and ignoring their rights; conspiracy is nothing but false accusations that are being made everyday, especially from platforms and media that are being funded by public recourses; and conspiracy is nothing but the actions far from religious teachings, law and human values that are being committed everyday against the political prisoners and their families.”
While expressing deep concern over the recent threats against the country, Mehdi Karroubi and Mir Hossein Mousavi, by emphasizing on maintaining the independence and national security, expressed fear for the present situation of the country, which is the result of the wrongful policies and adventurous speeches of the government officials and added: “The inconsiderate decisions and remarks of these people have caused humiliation for our people in the world and, in addition to multilateral sanctions, have resulted in threats and have brought the situation to a point that even retreating from some previous positions not only has no points for us but can rather cause the situation to become more critical. In this critical situation, the number of friendly countries and so-called allies does not even reach the number of fingers of one hand, which of course they are also looking for their own interests. The sanctions that have been imposed are hardships that the underprivileged class of the society will suffer and will make the situation for these people, who are unfortunately a large portion of this society, more difficult.”
Regarding the news of the creation of 7000 new centers for Basij across the country, Mehdi Karroubi and Mir Hossein Mousavi added: “The Basij that Imam [Khomeini] created with the goal of defending the preservation and security of the country’s borders against external threats, and made sacrifices for eight years at the fronts of the imposed war [of Iraq against Iran], has now turned into a military – political party for repressing the people, students and Sufis and their civil demands, and for engineering elections.”
At the end, Mehdi Karroubi and Mir Hossein Mousavi asked people that by creating social networks gather correct information and statistics about different parts of the country. Mehdi Karroubi and Mir Hossein Mousavi considered creating these social networks needed to confront the propaganda of false and deceitful statistics by the government, and added: “Experts and professionals active in various parts of the country clarify the present situation by providing correct statistics and assist people in making decision in their circumstances and planning for the future by informing them.”
