Mehdi Karroubi in a meeting with a group of young reformists shared his views and opinions regarding the recent events of the country with them and while strongly criticizing the deceitful and fraudulent remarks and actions of the government as well as the repression of the people following the tenth presidential elections, advised the young reformists to see beyond the partisan lines and always stay loyal to their fundamental beliefs and values. He also stressed that with no doubt victory will be achieved in a continuous and persistent movement with patience and perseverance.

Mehdi karroubi in a meeting with a group of reformist youth while congratulating them for the holy month of Ramadan added: “Despite the arrival of the merciful and holy month of Ramadan, unfortunately every day we witness the increasing pressure on the people. The everyday economic problems of the people was not enough now they are also interfering in people’s burial and funeral ceremonies and I have repeatedly warned about this issue, but it seems like there is no listening ear to get the message and stop these actions by a bunch of hired thugs. The latest example if such behaviors, is perverting to funeral ceremony for Mr. Tatari (former member of the parliament who just passed away) while we all know that he was a true warrior and a real Basiji who was a veteran of Iran-Iraq war and was the head of tribes Basij and accepted by them, but these fellows don’t even show respect for such a great figure and perverted his funeral ceremony. “

If you want to have the last word at least you should learn on how to gain people’s respect

The chairman of Etemad-Melli party (National Trust Party) by pointing to the fact that it has come to the point that the government agents even call some of the families before they hold ceremonies and intimidate them and put pressure on them in case they invited us (the Green Leaders) so that they can prevent our presence and make obstacles for us, stressed: “In the past despite all the hideous and ugly behaviors of the Shah’s regime but people’s dignities were respected but now I am amazed that what these newcomers are doing and where are heading? In fact by these actions they are embarrassing the ruling power and do not realize that anything has its own framework and if you want to have the final word at least you should first learn on how to gain people’s respect and approval.”

The Revolution and establishment was not achieved so easily that now a group of newcomers who are drunk of power are to taking it to the verge of fall!

The speaker of third and sixth assemblies of parliament in continuation by emphasizing that the future ahead of the youth is bright and shining noted: “The Islamic Revolution was achieved by the blood and sacrifices of many youth of this country. At that time the Shah was known as the first power of the region and the Sheriff of the Persian Gulf but because of corruption and not having the support of the people, despite all that power and ability fell and his regime was dismantled, this should be a lesson for everyone. The Revolution and establishment was not achieved so easily that now a group of newcomers who are drunk of power are to taking it to the verge of fall!”

It was planned such that everything would be based on people’s vote

Karroubi then by pointing to the characteristics of the Islamic Republic in both aspects of being based on Islam and also people’s votes added: “This system has two important features. First is its Islamic aspect, which means that the laws should be coordinated and consistent with religion and Islam. The other is the Republic aspect of it, meaning that the officials in the establishment must be elected base on people’s votes and their performance should be under the direct or indirect review of the people. In the era before the Revolution the country did not have a true elected parliament and in one way or another after the coup on 19 August 1953 (the Shah’s coup against the democratically elected prime minister, Mohammad Mosadegh, with CIA backing) every parliament was appointed and selected. “

He emphasized: “After the glorious victory of the revolution and people’s vote for the Islamic Republic on 1979, the system started to move toward a democracy and it was planned such that everything would be based on people’s votes, but I don’t know how the situation reached to this point today. Unfortunately today we witness that some are openly arguing that people’s votes are worthless and these elections are all limitations and more of a red tape, and they should not be held in the first place! These remarks are against the revolution and Imam [Khomeini] and people’s demands. In fact the people not only were protesting to the fraud in the tenth presidential elections but also they are saying that why the principles of the constitution are not implemented; and why free and democratic elections are held?”

Karroubi by emphasizing that Islam was not supposed to be used as a tool, added: “I don’t know why they have made this out of Islam? When I hear their [so-called] Islamic slogans I wonder! Because our plan was not this that Islam would be used as a tool and a mean to preserve power. Preserving power depends on ones abilities and also the will and demand of the people and power cannot be preserved by force and using religion as a tool.”

Karroubi added: “Unfortunately in the recent [rigged] election some have come to power that in no way believe in the system, revolution and Imam [Khomeini] and then people said “NO” to them in their [peaceful] protests. The protest of 3 million people on June 15, 2009 was not a joke; however diversity and having various demands are all natural but everyone were protesting to the lack of full and correct implementation of the constitution and the betrayal in honoring people’s votes.”

People’s movement is not limited to only one person, one media or one group Mehdi Karroubi in another part of his remarks by pointing that the nation’s great movement toward reform is plural of various groups and individuals, stressed: “The movement of the people of Iran is not limited to only one individual, one media or one group. One should pay attention that all the people with various views and tendencies are contributing to this movement. Therefore we should be vigilant and pervert the creation of any division. By tolerating each other and respecting different tendencies and views we should help to achieve the ideals of this reform movement that has started in our country.”

The demand of the majority in reform movement of people is to return to the path of the constitution

Karroubi in another part of his remarks regarding the manifesto and agenda to continue the movement of the people of Iran reinstated: “I also agree that in order to move forward we should have an agenda and I consider this needed and necessary for the movement, but unfortunately in the current situation we cannot even gather at one place and talk with peace of mind because they are abruptly looking forward to interrupt and prevent any gathering. This issue led to the fact that we have not been able to plan for the future as one would have wished. On the other hand the majority of our parties are under pressure and we don’t want the activists to suffer more pressure than what they are going through.”

Mehdi Karroubi by pointing to the shutting down of the Etemad-Melli Party said: “The office of our very own party has been shutdown illegally and ion no way they are agreeing to open the buildings door so that the landlord who has done nothing wrong gets his property back. This how they are treating the political parties which [their freedom] is one of the most important principles of the constitution. You can see how the rule of law has been ignored. In these circumstances providing a manifesto is very difficult, but because the demand of the majority in people’s reform movement is to return to the path of the constitution we should all unite around this center and move forward.”

These guys are not honoring any respect, neither the respect for the Marajeh (senior religious figures) nor the respect for the family of Imam [Khomeini]

Mehdi Karroubi regarding the role of the religious figures and scholars in people’s movement said: “During this time some of the religious figures clearly supported people’s movement against spreading lies and breaking laws, whom unfortunately have paid prices. Like the houses of Grand Ayatollah Saanei and late Grand Ayatollah Montazeri that were attacked. Some of the other religious figures were also not ignorant and did not keep quiet. They also showed their support in form of advices and counsels to the authorities in power, and there is no complaint against the senior religious figures as they all, in one way or another, stepped up in support of people’s legitimate and legal demands.”

He added: “In the recent events in the city of Qom you witnessed what happened, not only the houses of the Marajeh (Grand Ayatollahs Saanei and Montazeri) were attacked but their obscenity reached a point that in the holy city of Qom they insulted the grandson of Imam [Khomeini], Hassan Khomeini, in worst remarks possible. These guys are not honoring any respect, neither the respect for the Marajeh (senior religious figures) nor the respect for the family of Imam [Khomeini]! All these events proof that the establishment has been derailed and our main demand is to return to the main path of the establishment which is also the demand of the majority of the people of Iran.”

Their main profession has become lying and making up new lies

Mehdi Karroubi in another part of his remarks regarding the false news reported by pro-government propaganda machine about division among the leaders of the movement said: “Not only there is absolutely no division but rather in these hard and difficult times we try to move forward with empathy and compassion, and stand by the people. Unfortunately these website fabricate news falsely and untruly every day as if their main profession has become to spread lies and make up new lies.”

Karroubi in continuation by pointing to the division among the [pro-government] conservatives added: “The same guys who are making up the lies, now are having huge differences among themselves and are such hardliner that they don’t even tolerate to hear a different voice among themselves; and therefore to cover up these division they falsely accuse and slander others. We witness the ugly and false story of Mr. Janatti’s one billion dollar story (! )and we witness how this create internal division among them and within themselves they blamed Janatti for this false accusation and slander. Isn’t the very same recent issue, that was raised by Moshai (Ahmadinejad’s chief of staff) and Ahamdinejad and caused a new division among them (pro-government conservative), the proof of their division and lack of unity?!”

Definitely with a continuous and persistent movement which is accompanied by patience and perseverance, sooner or later the victory will be for the great nation of Iran

Mehdi Karroubi at the end by referring to the role of youth in the country added: “I advise you, the youth, to take lessons from the methods of these liars and know that under no circumstances should you lose your beliefs and principles or sacrifice them for the interest of a group of a party. Your beliefs, principles, character and identity form the foundations of your lives and never give up on them.”

He added: “Your moves should be accompanied by preserving your beliefs and identities. Avoid any extremism and know that definitely with a continuous and persistent movement which is accompanied by patience and perseverance, sooner or later the victory will be for the great nation of Iran.”
