Heavy clashes in Ghoba mosque in the city of Shiraz- Sept. 3, 2010
After the Qods Day rally in Shiraz, a group of basij who were provoked by the remarks made by the representative of the supreme leader in the Revolutionary Guards of Fars province and with the guidance of former hardliner governor of the city of Shiraz, using governmental resources entered the Ghoba mosque (where the pro-reform Grand Ayatollah Dastgheib gives his sermons) and confronted the small number of people who were praying in the mosque.
Following these attacks, a number of clerics and people were severely injured, and since it was not possible to take the injured outside of the mosque, these individuals were treated in the mosque with minimum resources. This brutal attack happened while the Council of Fars Province had guaranteed the safety and security of the mosque and by putting barriers in front of the mosque as to not allow people to get in to the mosque!
In the afternoon (local time) about 150-250 basij gathered in front of the mosque and the barriers were removed so that these thugs could get into the mosque easily and insult and disgrace this house of worship and Grand Ayatollah Dastgheib however they desired. But even verbal insults did not satisfy them. They started to damage and vandalize the mosque and attacked the people who were praying in the mosque with stones, wooden and iron sticks.
The people praying in the Mosque defended themselves and finally drove out the Basij, but not before many people being injured and the Mosque sustaining damage.
