Since talks broke down over the weekend between gold and jewelry merchants and authorities, the strikes have continued and spread. Today, according to ILNA, the Bazaari’s are being threatened with legal action if they do not end their strike.
Previously, they have been threatened with only fines. In fear that the strikes might escalate tensions, the authorities are also asking that the Bazaari’s open their shops as not to allow the “enemies from taking advantage of the situation.”
Also, the state media has been asked to not cover the strikes in the Bazaars.
Here is the strike in Tehran’s Bazaar today, September 29, 2010.
