Seyyed Mohammad Khatami, former president, in a meeting with a group of women reformist activists and wives of political prisoners while expressing compassion and sympathy for the pain there are suffering said: “Justice is placed in a series of religious rulings; it means that the almighty God has rule on what is justice and forbids from what is oppression. Therefore if something was recognized as oppression cannot be approved by God and if there would be any document with this regards either must be ordered as void and annulled or must somehow be explained and justified so that it would be consistent with justice.”

Khatami added: “I would like to extend this noble view and say that “morality” is also placed in the series of God’s rulings, even justice and fairness are subsets of morality. Thus religion in addition of being in accordance to justice must also be in accordance to morality.”

Seyyed Mohammad Khatami emphasized: “It is true that moral rules is aimed at individuals but community, society and legal entity (as interpreted today) are also addressed. For instance a moral state is the one that honors promise; it means that it should move in the framework of the promise it made with the people of its society or the international community and therefore diverting from the framework of the constitution, conventions or organizations that it has accepted to be a member of is a violation of this moral criterion and is rejected.”

Khatami continued: “One can determine if a state is moral based on its success in fight against poverty and liberating the society from chains, dependence and misery as well as eliminating the barriers of underdevelopment, discrimination and similar cases.” He added: “Or the morality of a state should not be determined based on its adherence to outer shells but rather in addition to that it must be based on its effort in spreading and promoting the content of religion; i.e. ethics, justice, honesty and etc.”

Former president also by pointing to the emphases of the holy Quran to patience and endurance said: “

Former president also by pointing to the emphases of the holy Quran to patience and endurance said: “We need to be patience and enduring in all situations including you dear ones and your loved ones who are in even worse hardships in the current situation.”

Seyyed Mohammad Khatami stressed: “The meaning of patience is not passivity and inactivity; the meaning is perseverance and not to become hopeless in face of hardships and difficulties and not to lose effectiveness. We must be robust and also don’t lose our way and if an individual or a group has a holy goal must also tolerate the hardships of the path to that goal; and with trust in God and without giving up, despair and inactivity and with wisdom continues the path.”

Khatami by stating that “Today they talk a lot about sedition and truly we are in sedition era” added: “I am asking aren’t violating moral, religious, humanitarian and legal values, in the name of defending the values and revolution, the true interpretations of sedition?  And in addition to the oppression, tyranny and the prices that the society is paying, the face of the system is also being portrayed ugly.”

Khatami by expressing regret that these days criticizing the government has such a heavy price stressed: “Why must the freedoms that have been stated in the constitution be restricted and on the other hand any false accusation, insult and slander be permitted or not be properly dealt with? Isn’t it oppression against the system and the revolution when all these is happening in the name of the system and the revolution?”

Khatami reiterated: “Our demand is the honoring of the constitution, acting comprehensively and fully based on its framework and implementing and executing this collective treaty for everyone, especially honoring it by the government.”

Seyyed Mohammad Khatami stressed: “Under no circumstances should the legitimate and stated freedoms be prevented and no one should be arrested, interrogated and tried in violation of the regulations of the law and particularly the constitution.”’

The former president in another part of his remarks said: “How can it so easily be announced that such party or official organization that has clearly accepted its responsibilities and has been and is active in the framework of the system is suspended?! If following up on the charges against the official political parties and organizations is not an example of political matter then what is political? Even if they are accused of acting against the national security or any other political crime it should be investigated in a fair court and in the presence of jury that is the true representative of public opinion and the accused must be provided with all the rights and resources that the law has considered.”

Seyyed Mohammad Khatami added: “Or if any individual with any charge claims that has been wrongly accused or treated and files a complaint, it is the legal obligation of the government to investigate it fairly so that the truth would be determined; not that with the crime of committing a legal act (for instance filing a complaint) individual is put under pressure and at the minimum in propaganda is faced with all sorts of insults and slanders without having the opportunity to defend. Stating and discussing these issues is out of care and even protesting to these acts is also out of care. Demanding an open environment and ending the security atmosphere and pressure are signs of devotion to the system and should be praised instead of being condemned and confronted harshly.”
