The Society for Defending Families of Martyrs and Detained issued a statement calling for the commemoration gathering of Ashura 2009 in Behesht-e-Zahra. The statement reads in part: “People took to the streets last year on Ashura to protest against the social and political conditions and against the Ahmadinejad government.
The government suppressed them full force with its Security Forces, Bassij and Intelligence Ministry agents. They shot at people, killed and injured tens of them, and even drove with their cars over people and killed them like Shahram Farjzadeh.
During the past year they put severe pressure on the families of these victims and threatened them not to hold any ceremony in their commemoration…
This society is calling on all compatriots to participate in the ceremony for the commemoration of these martyrs to soothe their families and not to let their justice seeking voices to be hushed.
Date of gathering: Thursday Dec.16 at 3 pm in Behesht-e-Zahra Cemetery.
“Lets raise our voices once more; viva freedom, viva freedom”.
