Seyyed Mohammad Khatami – former president – in a meeting with a group of reformist members of parliament while strongly criticizing the closed atmosphere created by the totalitarians and the imprisonment of prominent reformist figures warned that this situation is harmful for the country and the establishment and stressed on the minimum demands of the reformists once again. Khatami said any thoughts and decisions to have reformists’ participation in future elections depend on having these minimum demands fulfilled.
Seyyed Mohammad Khatami said: “The minimum demands of the reformists in the past were and still are:
1- Release of [political] prisoners and creation of an open atmosphere for all parties and groups and elimination of unfair restrictions
2- The abidance of all – especially the authorities – to the constitution and the full and comprehensive execution of it, particularly efforts to achieve the essence of the constitution
3- Providing means to hold free and competitive elections”
