According to reports, yesterday at midnight a group of more than 20 plain clothes militia who were armed with weapons illegally entered the Office of Board of Trustees and Founders of Islamic Azad University and the office of the Center for Advanced Science and Technology.
According to reports these plain clothes militia used intimidation, threats, and even handcuffed the security personnel of these buildings, entered some of the offices of these buildings, vandalized them and took some documents, computers and other objects with them; still there is no accurate list of what exactly was confiscated in last night’s raid. The illegal search and seizure lasted about 4 hours.
According to the statement by the Office of Board of Trustees and Founders of Islamic Azad University, these attacks were in continuation of the recent activities against the Islamic Azad University as well as the illegal changes made to the rules and introducing new members to the board of trustees [by Ahmadinejad administration] and also the illegal gatherings by plain clothes militia in front of various offices of the university in the past few days.
Islamic Azad University is country’s largest private chain of universities which has branches all over the country and was one of the projects initiated during Ayatollah Hashemi-Rafsanjani’s presidency. Until recently Mehdi Hashemi-Rafsanjani, son of Ayatollah Hashemi-Rafsanjani, was the president of the university. When Ahmadinejad came to power there have been some tensions between the university and the administration as the administration has tried to take control over this university.
