Iran’s Intelligence Minister says Opposition Leaders made detailed plans to eliminate religion in Iran

Iranian intelligence minister, Heydar Moslehi accused the opposition of making detailed plans to eliminate religion from Iran. In Qom’s Feizieh Seminary School, Moslehi referred to a “moving document” which delineates the “overthrow of religion in Iran.”

Moslehi said that the document has been examined by an expert who has identified the writers of the document. He added that the literature of this text corresponds with that of the Toudeh Party, Iran’s first communist party.

Iranian conservatives have repeatedly accused the reformist factions of sedition. They have now taken the attacks against the reformists a step further by accusing them of being against religion.

Pro-government media have referred to Alireza Beheshti, a top MirHosein Mousavi aide, as the author of this document.

Alireza Beheshti is the son of prominent cleric, Ayatollah Beheshti who was killed in the early years of the Islamic Republic in an explosion at the office of Islamic Republic Party which he had founded.

Alireza Beheshti who was also in charge of the opposition’s committee for investigating the post-election violence, was arrested twice in the post-election crackdown on protesters and released on bail.

The Minister of Intelligence stressed that the “sedition” has been twenty years in the making and maintained that a “soft war” is being waged against the Islamic Republic by “creating public discontent through highlighting shortcomings on the economy, by creating social NGO’s that follow their agenda and by using widespread psychological and media strategies to show the government is ineffective.”

Strikes continue to grow in Iranian Bazaar’s as talks on taxes break down

According to Tabnak, on Saturday there was a meeting between the heads of the Gold unions and the tax department authorities in Iran. The goal of this meeting was to make an agreement in implementing the new tax rule on gained profit (VAT tax).  But this meeting ended without any results due to the continuous protests by union activists and they declared that this rule should not be implemented.

After the unsuccessful meeting in the morning, there was going to be another meeting that afternoon in the office of the secretary general of the tax organization.  But, two hours into this second meeting, union authorities declared that they are not going to take part in the meeting and they prefer to follow their requests by continuing to close their shops.

Strikes have now also spread to Qom.  The gold sellers, especially in the Tala Mall, went on strike yesterday and closed their shops today.  There were a large amount of plainclothed agents around the closed shops which made it impossible to take pictures of the strike.  According to reports, the gold sellers will continue their strike tomorrow.  It is worth mentioning, Khamenei is scheduled to visit Qom next week.

In Qazvin, in a show of solidarity, the gold sellers also went on strike.  They marched in protest to the Tax Affairs Organization in the province of Qazvin.

According to reports from Tehran, a number of  Basij and plainclothed agents entered the gold merchants Bazaar in Tehran to counter the striking merchants. They attacked the closed shutters of a number of shops with metal bars while chanting “death to the hypocrites.” (The term hypocrite, monafeq in Farsi, is used by the Iranian regime to refer to the PMOI)

These attacks were met by a strong reaction from a number of the merchants, which led to clashes between the merchants and the basij.  According to reports, these clashes occurred at 2 pm when a Basiji who attacked the closed shutters of shop was beaten up by merchants and was then taken to the hospital.

This report also says that the fabric merchants’ bazaar was  half closed and it was announced that other merchants intend to join the strike.

Anti-Larijani leaflets circulate after Friday prayers in Qom

Green Voice of Freedom – Following Friday prayers in the holy city of Qom today, leaflets circulated among worshipers with content highly critical of the speaker of the Iranian parliament Ali Larijani.

According to the Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA), the leaflets were titled “Mr Larijani give us our votes back, you are no longer our representative”.

The leaflets, distributed in the the heart of Iran’s religious establishment in Qom city, were critical of the recent position of the conservative parliament speaker following attempts by Ahmadinejad to take control the Islamic Azad University, Iran’s biggest university and a private institution.  Many believe that battle for control is yet another sign of new deepening divisions amongst the hardliners in Iran.

It should be noted that the distributors of the anti-Larijani leaflets claimed to represent “a great number of clerics, students and people”.   They also criticise Larijani’s “optimism” towards “certain” candidates in the rigged 2009 presidential election campaign and refer to his recent performance as “indefensible”.   Addressing the parliament speaker, the note adds “you showed your level of obedience towards the leader.”

“It is said that you voted for Mr Ahmadinejad’s opponent [in the 2009 presidential election] and congratulated him on his victory.   Until now, no clear refutation has been issued by you in this regard, nevertheless we have already seen how credible your denials are.”

The leaflets also consider Larijani as the person responsible for the post-election unrest, stating, “in the case of the sedition, you [Larijani] went on television and requested permission for the agitators [protesters] to hold gatherings while the leader’s policy was for the protests not to be extended to the streets and not to give in to the seditionaries.”

The author or authors of these anonymous leaflets also speak of Larijani’s “good relations with the reformist” and his “unmerciful” relation with “revolutionary” members of the parliament.  “One of these revolutionary members has repented for having voted for you as speaker of parliament.”

“You continuously treat the government unmercifully.”

اطلاعیه میرحسین موسوی پیرامون ۲۲ خرداد امسال و نیز هتک حرمت بیوت مراجع /Mousavi’s statement on June 12th events and the attack on Marjas

Mir Hossein Mousavi in reaction to the attacks on the residences of Maraje (the highest ranking religious spiritual leaders) in a statement considered these actions the result of the need of the ruling powers to create distractions in order to hide the disasters they have caused for the country from people’s eyes. He also considered this year’s Khordaad 22nd (June 12, the anniversary of rigged presidential election) the sign of the Green movement’s maturity and wisdom. The full statement is as follows:

In the name of God

Refusing to issue permit for rally on Khordad 22nd (June 12th) more than anything showed the fear of the government from the repeat of the epic of Khordad 25, 1388 (June 14, 2009).  The unprecedented array of security and armed forces in Tehran showed that even after a year of suppression, imprisonment, partisan use of the IRIB (the state-run televisions and radios), government’s media and spending billions, the totalitarians could not convince people  that they have sincerity and truth in their actions.  As if they could, why would they have need for all these expenses, bringing forces, and spreading lies?

Attacks on the people and students on Khordad 22nd and then  the attacks on the residences of great Marja, Grand Ayatollah Saanei and on the office of late Grand Ayatollah Montazeri and insults to Hojat-al-Islam Karroubi revealed the extent of mental crisis and unrest among the attackers.  On this year’s Khordad 22nd, people didn’t give any excuse to the government to hide the outcomes of the Security Council’s resolution 1929 that was enforced on our country and nation because of bad management and populist policies and to make people forget the consequences of the double-faced and unjustified actions during the Khordaad 14 commemoration.*

Khordaad 22nd showed the maturity of the great Green movement and showed that every Green citizen wherever he or she is, at home, office, workplace, factory, school or on streets, with innovation and originality, is a movement on his or her own.

The Green movement has the wisdom to not act in a way that the totalitarians can hide the outcomes of their wrong policies in economy, culture, politics and foreign affairs.  Today, the ruling powers need more than ever to create distractions to hide the consequences of the disasters that they have brought on the country from the people’s eyes.

Attacks on the office of a respected Marja and one of the beloved students of Imam [Khomeini] is a new stage of these kinds of tension creations.  But those who ordered and those who executed such a dangerous act must know that attack on Marjas and insulting and putting pressure on them only destroy the legitimacy of the establishment.

Have they forgotten that it was the attack on Imam [Khomeini’s] house [by Shah’s forces] that laid the foundations to eliminate the bases of despotism on 15 June 1963 and then later on February 1979, and they still do not take lessens from these?!

Is it based on these historical experiences that you still sit on the branches and cut the roots?!

Mir Hossein Mousavi

گزارش تفصیلی از حمله سازماندهی شده روز گذشته به کروبی در قم / Update: Detailed report of the attack on Karroubi in Qom

Mehdi Karroubi who had traveled to the city of Qom visited Grand Ayatollah Saanei, pro-reform senior reformist figure, at 2:00PM local time yesterday June 13. According to report by SahemNews short time after Mehdi Karroubi arrived at the house of Grand Ayatollah Saanei a group of organized thugs gathered in front of the house of the Grand Ayatollah and started chanting slogans against Mehdi Karroubi and Grand Ayatollah Saanei. According to these reports these plain clothes thugs attacked the car of Mehdi Karroubi with chains and batons and severely damaged it. Also these individuals by throwing stone at the house of Grand Ayatollah Saanei vandalized the building. In continuation the thugs chanted slogans against Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, grandson of late Ayatollah Khomeini the founder of Islamic Republic, Grand Ayatollah Saanei, Mehdi Karroubi and Mir Hossein Mousavi and in support for the supreme leader.

According to this report Mehdi Karroubi at 6:30PM local time after leaving the house of Grand Ayatollah Saanei first went to the house of Ahmad Montazeri, the eldest son of late Grand Ayatollah Montazeri who was the spiritual leader of the Green Movement, then visited Saeed Montazeri, another son of late Grand Ayatollah Montazeri, and finally went to the house of late Grand Ayatollah Montazeri.

Unfortunately when Mehdi Karroubi was visiting the family of late Grand Ayatollah Montazeri these thugs by attacking and throwing stones at the house of late Grand Ayatollah broke the windows and severely vandalized the building.

Mehdi Karroubi because of this mob attack on the house of late Grand Ayatollah Montazeri and the request by the Revolutionary Guards, police and security forces of the city of Qom at 11:30PM moved to the building owned by Revolutionary Guards and next to the house of the later Grand Ayatollah and finally with arrangements of the security forces of the city of Qom at 4:00 AM on Monday June 14 left the Revolutionary Guards’ building and returned to Tehran.

گزارش تهاجم نیروهای لباس شخصی به دفتر آیت الله العظمی منتظری، و پلمب دفتر / Report: Attack on office of Grand Ayatollah Montazeri

The report of the attack by the plain clothes thugs on the office of late Grand Ayatollah Montazeri and the shutting down of his office by authorities:

In the name of God

On Sunday, 13 June 2010, the thugs attacked the offices of late Grand Ayatollah Montazeri and Grand Ayatollah Saanei.

This attack that started at 4:00PM local time with the excuse of Mehdi Karroubi’s travel to the city of Qom continued until late night with breaking the windows of the offices of the Grand Ayatollahs and chanting slogans, and eventually ended in invasion of the office and vandalizing the property at 4:00AM on Monday, 14 June 2010. The attackers did not spare any kind of insult.

It should be mentioned that these attacks happened following the repeated summoning and threats against myself, Ahmad Montazeri, by the intelligence office and the Special Court for clergy in Qom with the aim to shutdown the office of late Grand Ayatollah Montazeri and stop paying salaries [through his fund] to the clerics.

The interesting point here is the presence and silence of the police and special security forces and the complete coordination between them and the plain clothes militia! In this attack all the items of the office were damaged and the photos of late Grand Ayatollah Montazeri were torn up and insulted.
They broke office’s windows, chairs and even the television set, torn down the curtains and by hanging from the ceiling fan and treading down the vacuum cleaner damaged them.

Following these attacks on the morning of Monday, 14 June 2010, about 12 individuals from intelligence forces with a court order from the Special Court for the Clergy in Qom came to the office of the late Grand Ayatollah Montazeri and searched the office, confiscated the damaged items and shutdown and sealed the office; and by this action approved all the destructive actions of those who attacked. This is while one would expect from the security forces to control the plain clothes individuals and bring security to the area, but unfortunately not even one of the thugs was arrested!

Mehdi Karroubi and Grand Ayatollah Saanei under attack in the holy city of Qom

According to reports, Mehdi Karroubi had traveled to the city of Qom to attend a funeral ceremony and to visit Grand Ayatollah Saanei (pro-reform senior cleric) and Seyyed Hassan Khomeini (grandson of late Ayatollah Khomeini and the founder of the Islamic Republic).

While Mehdi Karroubi was visiting Grand Ayatollah Saanei at his home, a group of organized pro-government plain clothed thugs surrounded the house of Grand Ayatollah Saanei and chanted slogans against the Green leaders, Grand Ayattolah Saanei and Seyyed Hassan Khomeini.

This group of thugs, which according to Hossein Karroubi (son of Mehdi Karroubi) were organized, also attacked the car of Mehdi Karroubi and vandalized it.  Hossein Karroubi, regarding this incident said: “Hours ago I talked to one of my father’s guards and he was not also in a good situation.  He told me that today a group attacked the car of Mr. Karroubi, who was in Grand Ayatollah Saanei’s house, and with chains, batons and wooden sticks vandalized the car which although was a very steady car but is totally destroyed and this shows the intensity of this group’s attacks.”

Hossein Karroubi, adding that his father is still in the house of Grand Ayatollah Saanei said: “This group that is about few hundred has gathered in front of the house of Grand Ayatollah Saanei.” He also said: “From the sudden gathering and the behavior of this group it is obvious that they did not act by themselves and have orders and have been organized by some individuals.”

These organized group of plain clothed militia who were armed with batons and chains also broke the windows of the offices and house of Grand Ayatollah Saanei.

According to reports, the security forces and police who were present during these events did not show any reaction to these attacks and did not try to stop the plain clothed thugs.

Assembly of Qom Seminary Scholars and Researchers list solutions to crisis

RadioZamaneh – The Society of Qom Seminary Teachers and Researchers list a number of solutions for leading the Islamic Republic out if its “crisis” with election protesters.

A return to the provisions of the Constitution, release of political prisoners and identification and prosecution of perpetrators of murders are the top solutions mentioned by the reformist organization.

They also call for freedom of the press and free elections in order ‘to return the Revolution and the objectives of the Imam (founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khomeini) to its original path.”

Reformists and government opposition claim that “widespread fraud” in the presidential elections of 2009 has derailed the Islamic Republic from its original path.

In the past year, the top opposition leaders, MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi have repeatedly said that the “deviations” of the system need to be rectified.

Islamic Republic hardliners headed by Ayatollah Khamenei and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have condemned the opposition leaders and described their claims of election fraud as “seditious.”

The Society of Qom Seminary Teachers and Researchers, a religious organization that supports the reform movement, has condemned the government’s violent reaction toward peaceful election protesters in the past year.
