Graffiti In Tehran promoting Quds Day protests

August 6, 2010 – According to obtained reports, on Wednesday evening, after the screening of a movie ended at Esteqlal Cinema in Tehran and the lights were turned on, viewers noticed numerous anti-regime slogans on chairs and walls of the cinema’s exit hall.

Passersby reacted warmly to the political messages as they were walking in and out of the theater.

The secret war between youths and the Iranian regime included writing of anti-regime slogans on electrical poles, walls, and hospitals. The writing spanned Mirkhani Street, Nosrat Street, Qarib Street, the end of Keshavarz Boulevard, and the 1000-bed Hospital.

The slogans in the cinema and the streets included:

• “our uprising is alive,  Khamenei is dead, our next protest on *September 3,”

• “sanctions are a prelude to change, Iranians rise up and launch strike,”

• “We will be there on *September 3, the uprising will not be defeated,”

• “Khamenei must know that the uprising lives on, honorable Iranians support it.”

 * September 3rd refers to Quds Day.   In  2009, Iranians used Quds Day to stage protests against President Ahmadinejad and the Iranian government in response to the disputed 2009 Iranian presidential election. Estimates put the opposition protest in the tens of thousands, with participants shouting slogans in support of Mir-Hossein Mousavi.  Rejecting the government’s support of Palestinian militancy, opposition protesters chanted, “No to Gaza and Lebanon, I will give my life for Iran.”   There were reports of similar protests in Isfahan, Tabriz, Yazd and Shiraz.
