Elnaz Babazadeh beaten, raped and murdered by son of IRGC commander

Last week 26-year-old Elnaz Babazadeh was murdered by the son of an as of yet unidentified high ranking IRGC commander, in the north western city of Tabriz, for bad-hejabi (not wearing sanctioned Islamic attire).

Planet Iran Ms. Babazadeh who was in her vehicle was surrounded by members of the Basij militia; when she resisted their harassment, three agents boarded her vehicle and proceeded to assault and gang rape her, dumping her body in the area of the Emamiyeh cemetery of Tabriz. After her disappearance her family searched for an entire week, covering hospitals and detention centers in the Tabriz area. Finally her body was found at the Tabriz medical examiners where the coroners report confirmed her having been severely beaten, raped and then shot multiple times.  Her body was then released to the Babazadeh family for burial.

After an investigation conducted by Babazadeh’s family and friends, the son of one of the high-ranking commanders of the Revolutionary Guard was identified as the ring leader of the three who raped and murdered her. Following a formal complaint to the Tabriz security forces the three men were arrested and charged with assault, rape and murder. The three men however have claimed that because she resisted their warning about her “un-Islamic appearance”, they got into her car, forcing her to drive to an area outside Tabriz where they “taught her a lesson” but because she continued to resist, after being assaulted and raped, the shot her three times in the chest at point blank range. At present due to the family connections of the main ring leader of the group and his sensitive position, the unnamed man is being held by the Revolutionary Guards.

Elnaz was from a reputable family in Tabriz and had a bachelors degree in Public Relations. Her funeral was attended by 3000 people and the news of her murder has been heard not only throughout all of Tabriz but is quickly spreading throughout Iran.

Note:  We can neither confirm nor deny the authenticity of this report, as to date there has been no official statement from the family of Ms. Babazadeh.  As there is much controversy over these allegations, when and if the family gives an “official interview” and contradicts these allegations, we will post it and retract this story.  Until that time, we will continue to post all reports regarding this case.  Another thing to keep in mind, is that the regime intensely pressures/threatens the families of the martyred to deny /falsify /or remain silent about the  facts / events that led to their loved one’s death.

In the memory of Elnaz, my cousin

Her name was Elnaz.  She was 26.  She was not an activist, nor she had any intentions of changing the world. She was simply a young woman who wanted to live like any young woman should, to be beautiful, to love, to study and enjoy life.  Her crime was just that, being beautiful and wearing make up.  She was stopped by the Militant Basij forces for improper Islamic attire.  Yes, she had lipstick and her hair was not properly covered.  When she refused to get into the Militants Basij Militia’s car, they carjacked her and took her to the outskirts of the city of Tabriz, where she was brutally beaten, raped and murdered.  Her facial bones were especially all broken.  How dare she display her beauty ?

Today her murderer is walking free.  Arrested for a mere 5 minutes during which it was quickly decided this was a misunderstanding.

We want the world to know….

Last year Neda Agha Soltan’s murder was captured by a camera so the world could see, but Elnaz died alone.  There were no cameras, the only witnesses were the stray dogs in the ruins where she was found….Our family feels lucky to have at least found her body, for so many young women with the same fate as Elnaz are never found.

We want the world to know.  So my dear friends please pass this along to as many people as you can.  Put it on your face book walls, (blogs and websites) so others can see.
